Chapter 24

“Vividly expressing her tale of grief and hate.”

天亮後，文祥、衣紅、褲白、風不懼及左非右五人騎著馬，直奔六詔山。沿途諸峰列翠，風光秀麗，眾人卻無心欣賞。最後到了一處原名龍邦的小鎮，鎮民早已遷居到電腦城了，原來的一些樓房現已闢為馬廄。

After dawn, the five of them, Wen Xiang, Yi Hong, Ku Bai, Feng Buju and Zuo Feiyou, proceeded straight to Liuzhao Mountain on horseback. Their route passed several mountains covered with green forests and breathtaking scenery, but they were in no mood to appreciate it. At last they arrived at a small village formerly known as Longbang. The townspeople had already relocated to the computerized city and the original buildings had been converted into stables.

五人下了馬，立即有數人前來牽馬，風不懼對文祥說：「這裡是我們的地盤，因為訪客太多，馬匹都留在山下，待會我們徒步上山。」

When the 5 of them dismounted, several people quickly came up to lead the horses away. Feng Buju said to Wen Xiang, “This is our territory. Because there are so many visitors, all horses are kept at the bottom of the mountain. In a little while, we’ll head up the mountain on foot.”

文祥一看，這裡是一個四面環山的台地，地勢東西向，西邊是綿亙迂迴的山巒，窈窕迴合，直向遙天。向東一脈山脊，若匍匐足下，其側玉帶縈迴，迤邐在蒼茫中。北方山陵起伏，遠望有如短筆倒插，前後掩映。南邊則有一峰亭亭獨上，石勢嵯峨，雄偉挺拔。

Wen Xiang looked around. Here was a level terrace surrounded by mountains, running from east to west. Continuous mountain ranges pleasantly wound and crisscrossed all the way to the distant horizon in the west. To the east, the mountain range seemed to snake below one’s feet. A river ran along the foothills and wound its way into the misty distance. To the north, mountain peaks rose and fell. Viewed from a distance, they looked like short pens stuck upside down into the ground, the peaks in front concealing those behind them. To the south, one mountain peak stood higher than the others. It was towering, majestic, and immense.

衣紅等先向那山合十行禮，對文祥說：「這是莫高山……」

Yi Hong and the others first paid their respects to this mountain by saluting it with their palms held together before the chest. They told Wen Xiang, “This is Mogao Mountain…”

文祥奇道：「莫高山？我在月球工作的地方叫做莫高峰！太巧了！」

Wen Xiang was amazed. “Mogao Mountain? The place where I worked on the Moon was called Mogao Peak! What a coincidence!”

衣紅問：「莫高峰？誰取的名字？」

Yi Hong asked, “Mogao Peak? Who named it?”

文祥說：「是我取的，意思是指不算太高的山。」

Wen Xiang said, “I did. It means a mountain that is not too tall.”

衣紅點頭說：「不是巧，是你跟師父想法相近。師父常給我們講『山不在高，有仙則名，水不在深，有龍則靈，斯是陋室，唯吾德馨。』之理。」

Yi Hong nodded saying, “It’s not a coincidence. It’s because you and my master think alike. Master often tells us: ‘a mountain doesn’t need to be high. If an immortal dwells there, the maintain will become famous. Water doesn’t need to be deep. If a dragon lives there, the water will have a spiritual atmosphere. Although my quarters are humble, my virtue will be as fragrant as that of a flower. spread far and wide.’”

文祥見那蹬級上刺層霄，恐怕不下一千階，面有難色，心裡正盤算著，衣紅笑道：「你不怕死，怕累？」

Wen Xiang noted that the stairway lead up into the clouds. He feared there were at least 1,000 steps. His expression showed hesitance as he performed some mental calculations. Yi Hong laughed and said, “You’re not afraid of death. Do you fear fatigue?”

「不是，是怕走不上去，拖累你們。」文祥說的是實情，月球、火星上重力較小，人住久了，肌肉抗力自然減弱，前日與杏姑不過奔走片刻，卻累得兩腿發軟。

“No. I’m afraid that if I can’t make it, I’ll cause you inconvenience.” Wen Xiang was telling the truth. The gravitation on the Moon and Mars was less. If one stayed there too long, muscle resistance would naturally become weakened. The day before yesterday he had run for just a few moments with Apricot, but it has made him so tired his legs felt weak.

風不懼和左非右立刻過來說：「別害羞，我們抬你上去。」

Feng Buju and Zuo Feiyou immediately came over and said, “Don’t be timid. We’ll carry you up.”

這時文娃在文祥耳中說：「讓我作個弊，雖然你把我關了，我還可以借佛珠講話。你放心走，我已經給你加強了副腎上腺素。」

At this moment, Wen Wa said in Wen Xiang’s ear, “Let me cheat. Although you’ve turned me off, I can talk by using the prayer beads. Go ahead, and don’t worry about it. I’ve already enhanced your noradrenalin.”

文祥立刻說：「謝謝兩位好意，我先走走，走不動了再說。」說完，他抬頭挺胸，覺得體力充沛異常，便輕鬆地放開大步。他心裡好笑，什麼把電腦關掉？關得掉嗎？他用指語對文娃說：「這是違規！」

Wen Xiang immediately said, “Thanks, you two. I’ll first try walking. We’ll talk about it when I can’t take another step.” When he finished, he straightened his back and felt full of an extraordinary energy, and began walking with long strides. He was secretly amused. Why turn off the computer? Can the computer be turned off? He used finger language to say to Wen Wan, “This is against the rules!”

文娃說：「我以往就錯在墨守成規，智慧是無所不在的，我也急著要拜見禪師。」

Wen Wa said, “In the past I made the mistake of doing things by the book. Wisdom is everywhere. I’m anxious to meet the Zen Master, too.”

衣紅見文祥走得很快，忙說：「行百里者半九十，慢慢來。」

When Yi Hong saw Wen Xiang walking so fast, she quickly said, “When walking 100 meters, 90 kilometers is counted as half way. (Note 1) Take it easy.”

文祥也覺得自己太誇張了，便放慢腳步，靜心欣賞景物。

It had also occurred to Wen Xiang that he might be over doing it, so he slowed down and serenely admired the surroundings.

剛走幾步，就感到輕風徐拂，石階兩旁密樹蒙茸，多為櫸楠樟檜之類的古木，或與石爭隙，或類比相從，或拏雲攫石，搖曳在一片翠綠間。

But only a few steps further on, he felt a light breeze brush his face. The dense trees on either side of the stone steps grew in profusion. They were mostly old Ju, Nan, Camphor, or Juniper trees. The trees were either fighting for a foothold among the rocks, clustering together by species, grasping the clouds, or seizing the rocks. They were a swaying ocean of green.

上升了約百餘級石階，文祥見右側山間有飛練懸珠，牽綃迴幄。一條百尺長短，寬約丈許的飛瀑，貼著山壁斜射，正自引吭怒鳴，匯為繁響。就在片刻之間，山嵐競昇，淺霧群攏，輕寒襲人。五人尚不及呼應，周遭已然雲屯霧集，茫無垠際。一陣沁涼撲面，白絮簇擁，對面難辨鬚眉。

After they had probably climbed more than 100 stone steps, Wen Xiang saw, in a gap between the mountains on his right, a sheet of pearls entwined like a curtain suspended from the sky. A waterfall, about 100 meters high and more than ten feet wide, cascaded down the face of the cliff, thundering loudly in a continuous earsplitting roar. Within moments, the mountain wind rapidly rose and a light fog closed in. Everyone felt the coolness. Before the 5 of them could react, they were surrounded by thick fog and mist and everything ahead of them disappeared from sight. A cool gust of wind brushed over their faces and they were shrouded by shreds of white cloud. It was impossible to distinguish a person’s appearance even they stood right in front of you.

衣紅忙握著文祥的手，說：「不要怕，一會就過去了。」

Yi Hong hurriedly grabbed Wen Xiang’s hand and said, “Don’t be afraid. It’ll pass in a minute.”

文祥童心忽起，「喔唷」一聲，人便往後傾倒。衣紅忙不迭雙手相扶，後面風不懼見狀，趕緊往前攙住，跟在後面的左非右和褲白也被嚇了一跳。

Suddenly Wen Xiang thought to play a childish prank. With a cry, Wen Xiang fell backward. Yi Hong hurriedly reached out with both hands to pull him up. As soon as Feng Buju, who was walking at behind, saw this, he quickly moved forward to hold Wen Xiang. Even Zuo Feiyou and Ku Bai walking behind Feng Buju were startled.

褲白臉一沉，說：「怎麼連路都不會走了？」

Ku Bai’s expression was dark and gloomy, “Don’t you even know how to walk?”

文祥前後被衣紅及風不懼抱住，羞慚不已，只好自圓其說：「抱歉，我兩條腿有點不聽使喚，能不能休息一下？」

Wen Xiang was held by Yi Hong in front and Feng Buju from behind. Extremely embarrassed, he made up a plausible excuse. “I’m sorry. My legs are giving out. Could we take a rest?”

衣紅埋怨道：「看你，不自量力！害得大家緊張。」

Yi Hong blamed him by saying, “See? Overestimating your strength! It’s your fault for making everybody nervous.”

風不懼說：「再撐一會，過了這段棲雲衖，上面就是閬雲臺。正好今天雲濃，我們平常也很少有這種閒情雅致。」

Feng Buju said, “Hang on a bit longer. Once we pass this Cloud-resting Alleyway, the Lofty Cloud Platform will be right above. It turned out to be very cloudy today. Generally, we seldom have this kind of leisure.”

果然再上數十階，就像身體浮出了水面，下半身還在雲中，眼前已是爽朗一片，讓人俗慮盡滌。山勢到此更是陡峭，在峻裂斜騫的石壁上有幾株蒼松，老幹如藤，針葉似鐵，彎曲盤突地由石縫中掙扎而出，一直探首壁外，下臨絕地。

And sure enough, climbing up another dozen steps, it felt like one had popped out of the water. While the lower body was still sunk in the clouds, crisp and dry air lay ahead. It made people feel all their worldly worries had been washed away. At this height the mountain was even steeper. Several old pines grew on the lofty craggy precipice. Their gnarled trunks resembled creeper plants, with iron-like needles. Writing and twisting, they struggled to grow forth from the stone cracks and stretch beyond the cliff, overlooking a place of doom.

松旁有一六角亭，碧瓦紅椽，甚為醒目，亭下有六個石凳，圍在石几四周。紅扶著文祥走進亭內，揩淨了凳面才讓文祥坐下。風不懼取出先前準備的一壺茶水，說：「杯子沒有帶，不嫌棄的自行動手，不要客氣。」

Next to the pines was a hexagonal pavilion. It was very striking with its glazed tiles and red beams. 6 stone stools were placed around a stone table in the pavilion. Yi Hong helped Wen Xiang into the pavilion. She first wiped the surface of the stool clean before letting Wen Xiang sit down. Feng Buju took out a pot of tea that he had made beforehand and said, “I didn’t bring the cups. If you don’t mind, please help yourselves. Don’t be polite.”

左非右毫不客氣，拿起茶壺，對著壺口就咕嘟咕嘟灌個不停。

Zuo Feiyou wasn’t modest at all. He picked up the teapot and gulped without pause from the spout.

褲白見左非右這麼鹵莽，心裡更加煩躁，大叫：「夠了！夠了！別人還要喝！」

When Ku Bai saw Zuo Feiyou’s rudeness, it made him even more irritable. He shouted, “Enough! Enough! The others want to drink, too!”

左非右好像沒有聽見，頃刻間壺底已朝天。左非右抹抹嘴，長歎了一口氣，說：「只有在口渴的時候，才喝得出水的滋味來。小風！還有沒有？」

Zuo Feiyou didn’t seem to hear him. Within moments the pot was empty. Zuo Feiyou wiped his mouth and sighed, saying, “Only when one is thirsty can one taste the flavor of water. Feng! Anymore left?”

風不懼說：「還有，還有！」

Feng Buju said, “Yes, of course!”

左非右說：「有就拿出來呀！」

Zuo Feiyou said, “Bring it out then!”

風不懼說：「還有，在廟裡！」

Feng Buju said, “Sure. It’s in the temple!”

左非右說：「這不是坑人嗎？」

Zuo Feiyou said, “Are you kidding?”

風不懼說：「你應該想得到，誰帶那麼多水，任你喝個夠？」

Feng Buju said, “You should have thought of it. Who would bring that much water so you could drink as much as you want?”

褲白嘴一嘟：「自私自利！從來不顧別人！」

Ku Ba pouted. “Selfish! Never thinks of others!”

左非右問：「是誰自私自利，不顧別人的？」

Zuo Feiyou asked, “Who’s been selfish and didn’t think of others?”

褲白說：「當然是你！」

Ku Bai said, “You, of course!”

左非右挑釁道：「是嗎？大家摸著良心說，是誰？」

Zuo Feiyou challenged him, saying, “Oh, yeah? Everyone ask their own conscience. Who’s the one?”

褲白怒道：「是你！」

Ku Bai said angrily. “You!”

左非右從身後取出一壺水，說：「我敢喝光，是因為早有準備！這裡面是百花露，可比小風的清水好喝！」

Zuo Feiyou took out a pot of water from behind him and said, “The reason I had the nerve to drink it all was because I came prepared! This is the One Hundred Flowers’ Dew, which tastes far better than Feng’s pure water!”

褲白的怒火已經無法遏止了：「我不喝你那臭玩意，我就要喝清水！」

Ku Bai could no longer suppress his anger. “I’m not going to drink your rotten dew. I want pure water!”

衣紅知道褲白不過是借題發揮，摸摸他的頭說：「白弟，馬上就到了，忍一 下！」

Yi Hong realized this was only a pretext for Ku Bai to give vent to his pent-up feelings. She patted his head and said, “Bai, we’ll be there in a minute. Just hang on!”

褲白用力甩開衣紅的手，大叫：「妳不要管我！馬上就到了？好跟妳的情郎在一起！這下妳心滿意足了吧！」

Ku Bai thrust Yi Hong’s hand aside and shouted, “Leave me alone! We’ll be there in a minute? Then you can be with your sweetheart! You must be very happy, now!”

衣紅變了臉色：「白弟！你怎麼說出這種話？」

Yi Hong’s expression changed. “Bai! How could you talk like this?”

褲白由怒轉悲，紅著眼眶說：「我為什麼不能說？妳變了！」

Ku Bai turned from anger to sadness. The rims of his eyes were red. “Why? Because you’ve changed!”

衣紅說：「不要胡說！」

Yi Hong said, “Stop this nonsense!”

褲白說：「我偏要說，誰管得了我？」

Ku Bai said, “No. I want to say it. Who can stop me?”

衣紅說：「你怎麼敢這樣說？別忘了，我們是修道人！」

Yi Hong said, “How can you say such things? Don’t forget, we’re practitioners of the Way!”

褲白喊道：「我不是來修什麼鬼道的！我是衝著妳來的！」

Ku Bai shouted, “I’m not here to practice some stupid “Way”! I came because of you!”

衣紅急了，說：「白弟！冷靜一點！」

Becoming uneasy, Yi Hong said, “Bai! Calm down!”

褲白幾乎要哭出來了，說：「叫我冷靜？妳哪天想過我？」

On the verge of tears Ku Bai said, “Calm down? Have you ever thought about me?”

衣紅也氣了，說：「我們天天在一起，還不夠嗎？」

Yi Hong was angry, too. She said, “We’re together everyday. Isn’t that enough?”

褲白不依：「天天在一起？妳本來就應該是我的！」

Ku Bai didn’t agree. “Together everyday? You’re supposed to be mine!”

風不懼突然站起來，右手高舉一面牌子，大喝：「褲白！看師父令牌！」

Suddenly Feng Buju stood up, an emblem held in his raised right hand, and shouted, “Ku Bai! Look at the Master’s symbol of command.”

衣紅一見令牌，立刻雙膝一彎，跪倒在地。褲白怔了一怔，但他已橫了心，居然抗聲道：「什麼師父不師父！你別用師父來壓我！」

As soon as Yi Hong saw the emblem, she immediately fell to her knees. Ku Bai was speechless for a moment. However, he’d made up his mind to go all the way and had the audacity to object, “Master or not! Don’t try to pressure me by using the Master’s name!”

風不懼厲聲道：「褲白，我給你最後一個機會，見牌如見師，快跪下！」

Feng Buju said sternly, “Ku Bai. I’m giving you a last chance. Seeing the emblem is the same as seeing the Master. Quick, kneel!”

褲白瞟了衣紅一眼，再看看呆立一旁的文祥，心下一酸，說：「去你的什麼狗牌！什麼光頭師父！反正衣姐不要我了，我死給你們看！」

Ku Bai first looked contemptuously at Yi Hong and then at Wen Xiang, standing there dumbfounded. Feeling hurt he said, “The hell with that worthless emblem! What bald headed Master! Anyway, Yi doesn’t want me anymore. I’ll kill myself right before your eyes!”

褲白說完，立刻轉身走近崖邊，作勢要跳。衣紅慌了，起身就要去拉褲白。風不懼一把抓住她，說：「衣紅！妳忘了師父的訓言了？」

As soon as Ku Bai finished, he promptly spun about and walked toward the cliff and made as if to jump off. Terrified, Yi Hong got up to pull Ku Bai back. Feng Buju grabbed her and said, “Yi Hong! You’ve forgotten the Master’s instructions?”

衣紅心神一震，立刻反身跪下，低頭不語。

A jolt went through Yi Hong’s mind, and she instantly turned back and knelt without a word.

褲白先見衣紅追過來，正盤算著下一步要怎樣做，見衣紅被風不懼攔住，人又跪了下去。他絕望地說：「衣姐！我是為妳來的，妳要我活我就活，要我死我就死！衣姐！你可憐可憐我吧！我愛妳這麼久了，妳忍心遺棄我嗎？」

At first, when Ku Bai saw Yi Hong was coming after him, he was thinking what he should do next. But then he saw Yi Hong halted by Feng Buju and she knelt again. He said desperately, “Yi! I came here for you. If you want me to live, I will! If you want me to die, I will! Yi! Have pity on me! I’ve loved you for so long. How could you harden your heart and walk out on me?”

衣紅對褲白有一種強烈的母性情懷，禪師曾一再暗示，這種私情會影響大局。衣紅卻始終認為褲白對她言聽計從，絕不可能作出不理性的事來。

Yi Hong felt a strong motherly love toward Ku Bai. The Zen Master had hinted many times that this personal affection would affect the overall situation. But Yi Hong had always thought that Ku Bai would listen to her, no matter what. He would never do anything irrational.

褲白這一番表白卻讓她警惕到，難道褲白所要的，是佔有她？這位乖順的白小弟，天天跟在身旁，只是等著佔有她的軀體？那，天天和他探討的理念呢？抱負呢？難道一點都沒有進入他的大腦？

Ku Bai’s confession, however, had alarmed her. Could it be that Ku Bai wanted to possess her? Staying with her everyday, this nice, obedient younger brother was merely waiting to physically possess her? How about the ideals she had been talking to him about every day? How about their ambitions? Could it be that none of them had registered in his brain?

「你愛我什麼？告訴我！」衣紅問。

“What do you love about me? Tell me!” Yi Hong asked.

「衣姐！我愛妳的一切！」褲白又興起一線希望。

“Yi! I love everything about you!” Ku Bai again thought there might be a glimmer of hope.

「那我們談過的理想呢？我們應該犧牲小我，完成大我的！」

“How about the ideals we talked about? We should sacrifice our selfish interests to accomplish the greater goal!”

「是的，衣姐，我犧牲了小我，我只要妳！」

“That’s right, Yi. I’ve sacrificed my interests. All I want is you!”

「你要佔有我？」

“You want to have me?”

「是的，我要永遠和妳在一起！」

“Yes. I want to be with you forever!”

「永遠只有我們兩個人？」

“Only the two of us forever?”

「是的！只有我們兩個人！」

“Yes! Only two of us!”

「那別人呢？」

“How about the others?”

「管他們做什麼？衣姐，我只要妳，我只看到妳一個人！」

“Why bother with them? Yi. I only want you. I only see you, and you alone!”

「真的？你能發誓嗎？」

“Really? Can you swear?”

「我發誓！衣姐，自從我第一次看見妳，我就決定一輩子要和妳在一起！」

“I swear! Yi, ever since the first time I saw you, I made up my mind to be with you for the rest of my life!”

「你不是常說，你很關心別人嗎？」

“Haven’t you often said how much you care for others?”

「那是順妳的意，為了讓妳開心，別人與我什麼相干！」

“That was to do what you wanted, to make you happy. What do others mean to me!”

「你真不管他們的死活？」

“You really don’t care if they live or die?”

「我不管，我發誓！他們死光了我也不管！」

“No. I swear! They can all die and it won’t matter to me!”

「好！我知道了，你可以去死了！」

“O.k! I understand. Go ahead and die!”

「什麼？衣姐，妳說什麼？」

“What? Yi, what’re you saying?”

「阿彌陀佛！」一個慈眉祥目的老和尚，忽然現身崖前，對站在崖邊的褲白說：「你沒有錯，但是你不能留在此地，我送你回人間吧！」

“Amitabha!” An old monk with a benevolent expression suddenly appeared at the cliff. He said to Ku Bai, who was standing at the edge of the cliff, “You’re right. But you can’t stay here. I’ll send you back to the world of mortals!”

一聽此言，風不懼、左非右連忙跪下，文祥也連忙跪了下來。只見一道祥光閃過，待文祥定睛一看，眾人已跪在一座大殿內，他悄悄四下張望，沒有褲白的蹤影。

Upon hearing this, Feng Buju and Zuo Feiyou fell to their knees, as did Wen Xiang. There was a flash of a peaceful light. When Wen Xiang looked again, they were kneeling in a large hall. He cautiously looked around but Ku Bai was nowhere to be seen.

「汝等起身。」禪師語調平和，不像發生了什麼事情。大家叩頭後，垂手站立，禪師說：「這事原在料中，為師未加干預，是為讓紅兒體認事實真相。」

“Stand up, all of you.” The Zen Master’s tone was calm, as if nothing had happened. When they finished kowtowing, they stood up with hands at their sides. The Zen Master said, “This incident was expected. I didn’t interfere because I wanted Hong to realize the truth.”

衣紅又跪地叩頭道：「弟子知錯。」

Yi Hong knelt again and kowtowed, “This disciple realizes she was wrong.”

禪師頷首，說：「紅兒起來，成長需要過程，過程即為考驗。需知情關非止男女之情，凡依附於己之人與事物，皆能令人生情，有情即難辨是非。人間本無是非，但若有所為即應有所不為。紅兒當知，柔弱之物必依於剛強。強者保護弱者，本無可厚非，但若不明是非，不知輕重，則柔必克剛，剛強徒遭摧折而已！」

The Zen Master nodded and said, “You may rise, Hong. Growth needs a process and the process itself is a test. You have to understand that the challenge of love is not limited to the love between a man and a woman. Any person or thing that is attached to oneself can give rise to affection. With affection, it’s difficult for one to distinguish right from wrong. Originally, there was no right or wrong amongst mankind. However, if one does one thing, there must be something else that he shouldn’t do. Hong, you must understand. Softness will always attach itself to strength. It stands to reason that the strong protect the weak. However, if one doesn’t understand right from wrong, or comprehend what is important, then softness will overcome strength. Strength will have been wasted to no purpose!”

禪師又對文祥說：「老衲已與當局有默契，前一階段試驗已告一段落，詳情可問文娃，當知前後因果。」

The Zen Master then addressed Wen Xiang, saying, “This old monk has a tacit understanding with the Bureau. The preliminary test has come to an end. You can ask Wen Wa for details. Then you’ll know the whole story.”

文祥詫道：「禪師也知道文娃？」

Wen Xiang was amazed and said, “The Zen Master knows about Wen Wa as well?”

禪師笑道：「阿彌陀佛！你問她吧！」

The Zen Master laughed and said, “Amitabha! Ask her!”

文娃不待人請，馬上又興奮又急促地說：「我到今天才知道，禪師是我師父的好朋友，他一直在監督我的工作，還故意打著反對我們的旗幟，宣稱是外星人後援會的成員。幸而我對所有人都一視同仁，從來沒有歧視他們。禪師對我們的表現相當滿意，而且告訴我，師父等我每一關都通過了，就會主動跟我聯絡了！」

Without waiting for someone to ask, Wen Wa quickly and excitedly spoke up. “I didn’t know until today that the Zen Master is a good friend of my own master. He’s been supervising my work. Moreover, he deliberately raised an enemy flag against us and referred to himself as a member of the extra-terrestrial support group. Fortunately, I treat everybody as an equal and I’ve never discriminated against them. The Zen Master is very satisfied with us. And he told me that when I’ve passed every challenge, my master will automatically contact me!”

文祥第一次聽到文娃語帶感情，而且是人類的感情，大感驚異。本要追問下去，卻見禪師面帶笑容望著他，只好按捺著滿腔好奇，垂首不語。

This was the first time Wen Xiang ever heard Wen Wa speak with such feeling. And it was a human feeling. He was considerably surprised. Originally, he wanted to inquire further, but when he saw the Zen Master smiling as he looked at him, the only thing to do was suppress his curiosity. He lowered his head without speaking.

禪師又說：「汝等暫去歇息，俟戌時晚課，再來此處。」

The Zen Master said again. “You go ahead and get some rest. Come here at 7 p.m. for the evening lesson.”

衣紅等再度叩謝，四人走出大殿，五行人等好友都前來問候。自衣紅皈依法師後，五行人也決定留下來，只有希來受不了廟裡的清規，一個人繼續雲遊去了。

Yi Hong and the others knelt again to express their gratitude. The 4 of them walked out of the hall and the Five Element People came up to greet them. Since Yi Hong had become a student of the Master, the Five Element People had decided to stay. Only Xi Lai couldn’t put up with the monastic rules of the temple, so he continued his wanderings alone.

這次衣紅等從火星回來，禪師命三人至雞鳴山閉關，五行人偷偷前去探望，不料竟被席克人中途攔劫，火大、木大被擄。禪師得知後，只說日後必歸，果然昨天逃了回來。

This time when Yi Hong and others came back from Mars, the Zen Master told the 3 of them to isolate themselves in the Jiming Mountain. The Five Element People had sneaked in there to see them, and while on the road had unexpectedly encountered the Seeks. Greatest Fire and Greatest Wood were captured. When the Zen Master learned of this, he merely said that they would return. And sure enough, yesterday they had escaped and returned.

木大對衣紅說：「席克人在這一帶布下了天羅地網，他們一直逼問我，要你們由火星帶回來的東西，那是做什麼用的？」

衣紅搖頭說：「我也不知道，等一下聽師父訓示吧！」

文祥一路與衣紅同行，大願得了，心情甜蜜異常。及見褲白嫉妒之狀，卻又自責不已。後來褲白在山亭中失控發作，心緒更是此起彼伏，他想要向褲白解釋自己並無意與衣紅要好。但是這話不僅有違良心，又會傷及衣紅。左右為難之際，更覺情之為害，真是步步荊棘。

Wen Xiang had been traveling with Yi Hong all the way here so his wish was fulfilled. He felt extremely blissful. However, when he saw Ku Bai’s jealous behavior he couldn’t stop blaming himself. Later, when Ku Bai lost control at the mountain pavilion, his heart was in turmoil. He wanted to explain to Ku Bai that he hadn’t intended to become close to Yi Hong. 等禪師把褲白逐出門牆後，文祥心中大定，若得衣紅長相左右，自是求之不得。但若將來人生目標與感情發生衝突，自己一定要將情愛放到一邊，絕不步上褲白的後塵。

After the Zen Master had expelled Ku Bai from their teacher-disciple relationship, Wen Xiang felt greatly relieved. If he could have Yi Hong by his side all the time, it would be just what he wanted. 「那怎麼開的呢？」

“How was it opened?”

「禪師剛才給我打開的！」

“The Zen Master just opened it for me!”

「禪師也能與妳溝通？」

“The Zen Master can communicate with you, too?”

「是的，而且還有我所有模組的鑰匙！只要我所作所為合乎師父設計的規範，禪師就會一步一步替我打開！」

“Yes. And he has all the keys for every module in me! As long as my behavior follows the rules designed by my master, the Zen Master will unlock each one for me, step by step!”

「妳還有師父？怎麼從來沒聽妳提起？」

“You have a master? How come I never heard you mention him?”

「我不能多說。」

“I can’t talk about it.”

「是不是不二老人？」

“Is he Buer Lao?”

「時機未到，別問了。」

“All in good time. Stop asking.”

「什麼時機未到？分明是托詞！」

“What do you mean, ‘all in good time’? That’s clearly an excuse!”

文娃沒有回答，他又問一次，她還是不理會，這表示真不願回答。文祥不再追問了，平常要強迫她都難，現在又有了感性，幾乎是不可能的事了。

他正在猜測誰是文娃的師父，忽然覺得神思恍惚，抬頭見衣紅跑進來，神色倉惶地拉著他的手說：「文哥快點，我帶你去一個地方。」

文祥勸道：「騎馬奔馳了半天，我們都累了，待會精神不濟會誤了大事。」

衣紅幽幽地說：「還有什麼大事？你和我的事最大！」

衣紅說：「那種話你也認真？」

那邊衣紅更是危險，她一想起褲白，就無法不自責。她不是不知道褲白對她的依戀，可是那有什麼關係呢？說不定自己能幫助褲白成長，得道！一直到今天，挨了禪師的當頭棒，她才看清自己的虛榮心，知道自己也喜歡別人的依賴與阿諛。

Yi Hong, for her part, was in even more danger. Whenever she thought about Ku Bai she couldn’t help but blame herself. It wasn’t as if she was unaware of Ku Bai’s attachment to her. But so what? Maybe she could have helped Ku Bai mature and attain the Way! 衣紅一驚，立刻把文祥推開，正色說：「不要說這裡是佛門淨地，再說你我目前只是普通朋友，請你尊重我一點！」

Alarmed, Yi Hong immediately pushed Wen Xiang away. Looking serious she said, “Not only is this place a pure land of Buddha, for the moment you and I are merely ordinary friends. Please have some respect!”

文祥說：「紅妹，自從火星一別，我的心都不見了。」

衣紅心一軟，歎道：「我雖然年輕，還知道好歹，你真要找心，我勸你還是回電腦城去，要多少有多少。」

文祥痴痴地說：「我只要妳的！」

寺後一小個亭中，禪師正與一位身著玄色道袍，面相清臞的老者對坐談話。左非右遠遠看到，立刻登亭叩首，參見師父。

In a small pavilion behind the monastery, the Zen Master was sitting across from an old man with an emaciated face and dressed in a black Daoist robe. They were engaged in conversation. Zuo Feiyou saw them from a distance and he immediately ascended the pavilion to greet his master.

逍遙子含笑命起，說：「我徒之關山何在？」

Xiao Yao Zi smiled and told him to rise, saying, “What will my disciple’s challenge be?”

左非右說：「白日依山盡，黃河入海流，欲窮千里目，更上一層樓。」

Zuo Feiyou said, “Daylight recedes from the hills,

The Yellow River runs down to the sea;

Wishing to see into the infinite distance

I climb up one more level.

逍遙子頷首道：「你去罷！」左非右行了禮便退下。

Xiao Yao Zi nodded and said, “Then go!” Zuo Fei saluted and stepped down.
