第二十六回：風流儒雅亦吾師
Chapter 26
“The dash and elegance of his style remain an example to me.”
周博士氣消了，承認受到席克人的蠱惑，兩年前在馬關的望夫山上設置了一間實驗室。專門生產各種毒蟲，要和王之淳一拼高下。
Dr.
Zhou’s anger gradually subsided.
She admitted that 2 years ago she had yielded to Seek inducements and
had set up a lab on Wangfu Mountain in Maguan for the
specific purpose of breeding an assortment of poisonous insects to compete with
Wang Zhichun.
王之淳急得跳腳：「小小！妳真不知好歹，這幾十年，我們吃了多少苦頭？就為了彌補以往的過失！好不容易才有一點結果，誰高誰低有什麼重要？」
In
his anxiety Wang Zhichun jumped to his feet. “Xiaoxiao! You must be out of your mind. Think how much suffering we’ve had to endure
over recent decades to make up for our past mistakes! Think of the effort it took just for
such meager results. What’s so important
about who is more clever than the other?”
「有什麼重要？除了那些毒蟲，你可知這世界上還有一個我？」
“What’s so important? Aside from those poisonous insects, do
you realize there’s still me in this world?”
「我哪點虧待妳了？」
“Have I mistreated
you?”
「沒有，你對誰都一視同仁。」
“No. You treat everybody the same way.”
「這有哪點不對？」
“What’s wrong with
that?”
「對極了！」
“Nothing!”
王之淳急了：「那不好嗎？」
Wang Zhichun
was getting nervous. “Is that wrong?”
周博士尖叫道：「不好！不好！不好！」
Dr. Zhou yelled,
“Wrong! Wrong! Wrong!”
王之淳真是一頭霧水：「有哪點不好？妳不是最欣賞無私的人嗎？」
Wang
Zhichun was confused, “In what way? Haven’t you always admired people who
are impartial?”
周博士惱道：「我欣賞別人無私，我沒說你應該無私！」
Dr. Zhou said irritably, “I
admire impartiality in others. I never
said that you should be impartial!”
王之淳更不懂了：「妳是說我該自私？」
Wang Zhichun
was becoming even more puzzled.
“You mean I should be selfish?”
周博士氣得沒脾氣了：「你該為我著想呀！」
Dr. Zhou was so outraged she
was lost for words. “You should
have thought of me!”
王之淳說：「我為妳著想，那不就是自私嗎？」
Wang Zhichun
said, “If I thought of you, wouldn’t that have been selfish?”
周博士說：「大笨牛！你為了我，怎麼叫做自私呢？」
Dr.
Zhou said, “You are really stupid! If
you do something for me, how could that be considered selfish?”
王之淳想不通了，改變話題道：「那妳怎能幫那些野心家害人？」
Wang Zhichun
didn’t get the point, so he changed the subject. “How could you help those ruthless
people harm others?”
周博士說：「你憑什麼說人家是野心家？」
Dr. Zhou said, “Where do you
get off saying others are ruthless?”
王之淳說：「當然是！妳看，他們盤踞都陽山一帶，為非作歹，荼毒人民！」
Wang
Zhichun said, “Of course they are! Look, they’ve taken over all of Duyang Mountain and brought calamity to the people!”
周博士冷笑一聲，說：「不知道你是聽誰說的？大法王對我好得很，溫柔體貼！」
Dr.
Zhou chuckled coldly and said, “I wonder where you heard that. The First Lord is very nice to me. He’s gentle and considerate!”
王之淳跺腳道：「小小！妳怎麼可以和那個惡魔勾三搭四的？」
Wang
Zhichun stamped his feet and said, “Xiaoxiao! How
could you become involved with that devil?”
「惡魔？我看他是情聖！」
“Devil? In my eyes he’s a passionate lover!”
文祥一聽到大法王，就用指語問文娃，她說：「金星法庭認為大法王罪證不足，於日前釋放回來了。」
As
soon as Wen Xiang heard mention of the First Lord, using
finger language he queried Wen Wa. She said, “The Venus court thought the
evidence against the First Lord was insufficient so he was released a few days
ago.”
文祥大驚：「那些鬼怪呢？」
Wen Xiang
was stunned. “How about those
demons?”
文娃說：「早就放回來了，我現在才發現，原來人類根本沒有判斷力。我們所倚重的一些法學泰斗都被大法王買通了。」
Wen
Wa said, “They were released a long time ago. Now I realize that Man has no judgment
at all. All those leading scholars
of law, upon whom we rely so much, were all bribed by the First Lord.”
文祥憂心忡忡：「那怎麼辦呢？」
Heavy of heart Wen Xiang asked, “What shall we do?”
文娃說：「放心，我們自有辦法，下回先容他們為惡，有了真憑實據再動手。」
Wen
Wa said, “Don’t worry. We’ll know what to do. The next time we’ll let them do
something evil. When there’s enough
evidence we’ll take action.”
這時陶朱公等人也甦醒過來了，談起剛才的情況，猶有餘悸。
By
now, Mr. Tao Zhu and the others were awake. When told what had just happened they
still seemed a bit frightened.
周博士向他道歉，說：「雖說我和大法王合作，其實我另有打算。因為之淳曾說，中東的生化技術獨步全球，尤其是有關毒物控制方面。據我所知，大法王在這裡發展有三個目的，一是監視法慧禪師，不知為什麼，他非常怕禪師。一是基於地利，這一帶離海很近，海運走私容易。而最重要的，就是想利用金鐘山的生化基地，結合中國的生化科學家，推翻電腦統治。」
Dr. Zhou apologized to him and
said, “Although it could be said that I’m working with the First Lord, I
actually have other plans. That’s because
Zhichun once said that biochemical technology in the
Middle East is the most outstanding in the world, especially in the control of
poisonous creatures. To the best of
my knowledge, the First Lord chose to make this his base for 3 reasons. First, he wants to spy on the Zen Master
Fa Hui. I don’t know why, but he really fears
the Zen Master. Secondly, the
location is convenient. It’s close
to the ocean so smuggling by the sea is easy. But most importantly, he wants to use
the biochemical base located on Golden Bell Mountain. In conjunction with China’s biochemical
scientists, he intends to overthrow the computer authority.”
陶朱公說：「要推翻電腦王朝？談何容易？」
Mr. Tao Zhu said, “Overthrow
the computer authority? Easier said
than done!”
周博士說：「我原來是這麼想，可是根據他的分析，也不無可能。」
Dr. Zhou said, “That’s what I
thought. But according to his
analysis, it’s not impossible.”
陶朱公說：「妳說說看！」
Mr. Tao Zhu said, “Tell us about it!”
周博士說：「從表面上來看，電腦的力量很大，可是電腦是一元化世界。只要控制住電腦，可以說就控制了全世界，反而比歷史上任何時代都要容易。」
Dr.
Zhou said, “On the surface, the power of the computer is enormous. But the world of the computer is a
single unit. Whoever controls the
computer, can be said to control the whole world. It’s easier now than at any other point
in history.”
陶朱公說：「他有可能控制電腦嗎？」
Mr. Tao Zhu said, “Would it
be possible for him to really control the computer?”
周博士說：「當然可能，他們幾乎成功了。有個電腦天才，名叫摩爾，他成功地破解了當局的意識中心。上次他們只是敗在自己人手中，這次大法王被送到金星監獄，才幾天就被釋放回來。原因是他又結識了一個鬼才，這人能控制人的意識，金星法庭的法官都是他的傀儡。」
Dr.
Zhou said, “Of course. They almost
succeeded. There was a computer
genius named Moor. He successfully broke
into the computer’s center of consciousness. The last time their downfall was caused
by their own people. This time, when
the First Lord was sentenced to prison on Venus, he was released within a few
days. That was because he met
another person of satanic genius, a person able to control the consciousness of
others. The judges in the Venus
court are all his puppets.”
王之淳詫道：「金星法庭？在哪裡？」
Wang Zhichun
asked in surprise, “The Venus court?
Where’s that?”
周博士說：「我看你除了ＤＮＡ，其他都是白痴。金星法庭當然在金星！那裡囚禁的都是重刑犯，現在全都成了大法王的嘍囉！」
Dr. Zhou said, “It appears that
aside from DNA, you’re an idiot in everything else. The Venus court is of course on
Venus! The prisoners there are all
dangerous criminals. Now everyone
of them has become a follower of the First Lord!”
陶朱公問：「難道電腦當局一點都不知道嗎？」
Mr. Tao Zhu asked, “Are you saying
the Computer Authority Bureau had no knowledge of this?”
周博士說：「知道又怎樣？電腦沒有判斷力，全靠人類議會那些人作主。大法王說，有一半代議士已經被他控制住了。」
Dr.
Zhou said, “Even if they did, so what?
The computer doesn’t have the ability to make judgments. They depend entirely on decisions made
by members of the Human Council.
The First Lord claims that half of the congressmen are under his control.”
文祥又對文娃說：「聽見沒有？你們怎麼不知道呢？」
Wen Xiang said to Wen Wa, “Did you hear that? How come you don’t know anything about it?”
文娃說：「說來慚愧，我們以往嚴格遵守宣言，不能判斷人的行為。現在則是千頭萬緒，要一點一滴地將資料建立起來。」
Wen
Wa said, “I’m ashamed to say this, but in the past we
strictly adhered to the Policy Statement whereby we weren’t permitted to make
any judgments regarding human behavior.
Now, there are a thousand and one fragments. The information has to be built up, bit
by bit.”
陶朱公歎了口氣，說：「人呀人！把世界搞成這樣，還不知守本分！」
Mr.
Tao Zhu sighed and said, “Humans!
They’ve turned the world into what it is today and they still don’t know
to keep their place in life!”
周博士不悅，駁道：「什麼叫守本分？我認為這才是進步的動力。」
Dr.
Zhou was displeased and retaliated, “What’s ‘keep their place in life’ supposed
to mean? I think that’s the driving
force behind progress.”
衣紅聽了半天，早就忍不住了：「周博士，聽妳這樣一說，這位大法王才是個人物。妳能帶我們去見識一下嗎？」
After
listening to them for some time, Yi Hong had had enough. “Dr. Zhou, from what you’re saying it
sounds like this First Lord is the key.
Could you take us there to see for ourselves?”
周博士說：「當然可以，我帶你們去。」
Dr. Zhou said, “Of course. I’ll take you there.”
王之淳跳了起來：「我不去！」
Wang Zhichun
gave a start. “I’m not going!”
衣紅說：「王博士，你不是說人要無私嗎？」
Yi Hong said, “Dr. Wang. Didn’t you say people should be impartial?”
王之淳說：「當然！」
Wang Zhichun
said, “Of course!”
「你總不會嫉妒大法王吧？」
“You’re not jealous of
the First Lord, are you?”
「我為什麼要嫉妒他？」
“Why would I be
jealous of him?”
「你愛周博士呀！」
“You love Dr. Zhou!”
王之淳有點不好意思，說：「小姑娘，這些事妳是不會懂的。」
Wang Zhichun was embarrassed and said, “Young lady, you don’t understand these things.”
衣紅說：「我是不懂，可是我卻有一顆女人心呀！」
Yi Hong said, “No. But I have a woman’s heart!”
「女人心和男人的還不都一樣，左心室、右心室……」
“The heart of a woman and that of a man are both the
same. The left ventricle, the right
ventricle…”
「王博士，我說的心是不能解剖的！」
“Dr. Wang. The heart I’m talking about can’t be dissected!”
「那就是唯心論的心。」
“So it’s the heart, as
in idealism.”
「不錯，我是唯心的，但是我總是人吧？」
“Exactly. I’m idealistic. But after all, I’m human, right?”
王之淳搖頭說：「唯心是不值得討論的！」
Wang Zhichun
shook his head. “Idealism is not
worth talking about.”
衣紅耐著性子說：「誰要跟你討論了？我只希望你用用這個心。」
Yi
Hong tried to be patient and said, “Who wants you to talk about it? I just hope you’ll listen to your heart.”
「怎麼用法？」
“How?”
「你做實驗時，要先付出心血吧？」
“When you conduct an
experiment, you have to first invest your heartfelt labor.”
「當然。」
“Of course.”
「你付出越多，期望就越高，是吧？」
“The more you invest,
the more you expect, right?”
「當然。」
“Of course.”
「那你想想，周博士在你身上付出了多少心血？」
“Then think about it. How much heartfelt labor has Dr. Zhou invested
in you?”
周博士看衣紅開導王之淳，搖頭不已，她插口說：「衣紅姑娘，他書讀多了，腦筋裡只有ＤＮＡ，妳饒了他罷。我也沒抱什麼希望，只要他知道我還是個人就夠了。」
When
Dr. Zhou saw how Yi Hong had been leading Wang Zhichun
along, she couldn’t stop shaking her head, and interrupted, saying, “Miss Yi
Hong. He’s been reading so much that
he has nothing but DNA on his mind.
Give him a break. I don’t have
any high hopes. As long as he
acknowledges me as a human, that’ll be enough.”
王之淳忙說：「小小，我當然知道妳是人，而且把妳當作我了。」
Wang Zhichun
hurriedly said, “Xiaoxiao. Of course I acknowledge you as a
human. And I look upon you as part
of myself.”
周博士說：「不，你只是把我當作你的助手。」
Dr. Zhou said, “No. You just look upon me as your
assistant.”
王之淳說：「那有什麼分別？」
Wang Zhichun said, “Is there a difference?”
周博士說：「對你是沒有分別，對我卻是天壤之別。」
Dr.
Zhou said, “It makes no difference to you, but the difference to me is as great
as that between heaven and earth.”
王之淳說：「難道大法王不是嗎？」
Wang Zhichun
said, “Are you saying the First Lord isn’t?”
周博士歎道：「我對大法王沒有期望，但是他能滿足我的需要。」
Dr. Zhou signed, “I don’t have any expectations from the First Lord, but he can satisfy my needs.”
衣紅說：「這些事不是幾句話就能解決的，我們主要的目的是要消滅這些蒼蠅。既然大法王那邊還在生產，我們也該去拜訪他一下。」
Yi Hong said, “These problems aren’t
going to be resolved with words.
Our main purpose is to destroy these flies. Since the First Lord is still producing
them, we should pay him a visit.”
王之淳聽了這話，再提不出反對的理由，只好點頭答應了。
Upon hearing this, Wang Zhichun ceased objecting and nodded his consent.
由於飛雲梭最多可載六人，於是文祥、衣紅、風不懼、王之淳、陶朱公及周博士同乘一艘，左非右與五行人乘另一艘，一同前去馬關大法王的基地。同來的四個陶莊助手，則將氣墊車及座騎等帶回莊中。
Because the Flying-cloud Shuttle
could only carry 6 people at the most, Wen Xiang, Yi
Hong, Feng Buju, Wang Zhichun, Mr. Tao Zhu, and Dr. Zhou got into one, while Zuo Feiyou and the Five Element
People took the other. Together,
they went to the First Lord’s base in Maguan. The 4 helpers who had accompanied them
from the Tao Estate took the hovercraft and horses back to the Estate.
馬關離此地約有一百公里，甫上飛雲梭，不要十分鐘就到了盤龍江畔，一個叫做八千山的峰前。眾人下了飛梭，舉目四望，這裡寸草不生，到處是沙堆、蟻垤。有些山坡上還刻鏤著傾圮的梯田痕跡，景象更令人觸目驚心，在雨水沖刷下，看起來與飽經天災兵燹的斷垣殘壁沒有多大分別。
Maguan was about 100 kilometers away. After getting on the Flying-cloud Shuttle, in less than 10 minutes they had arrived at the bank of the Panlong River, in front of the peak known as Baqian Mountain. All of them descended from the Flying Shuttle. Looking about them there was not an inch of grass to be seen. Sand hills and anthills were everywhere. Some slopes were still scored with traces of ruined rice paddies. It was a ghastly spectacle that met the eyes. Thanks to the torrential downpour of rain, they looked no different than ruined villages that had suffered more than their share of warring armies and natural disaster.
這裡離攀枝花約五十公里，是從前中國著名的生態保護區。往昔一些生物、遺傳基因研究所的基地都設在這裡，以便就地取材。
This
site was 50 kilometers from Panzhihua. At one time it was China’s famed
ecosystem preservation area. In the
past, it had served as a base for some biological or genetic research centers due
to the local availability of resources.
在二十世紀初，這裡的熱帶雨林舉世聞名，是一個自然勝地。到了上個世紀末，隨著中國經濟開放政策，人們大肆砍伐森林，楠木樟木因為經濟價值高，先被砍伐殆盡。由於需求殷切，到最後竟是逢樹就砍，不到十年之間，只剩下光禿禿的一片石山。
At the beginning of the 20th
century, the local tropical rainforest was world famous. It was a splendid example of natural
surroundings. At the end of the
last century, in the wake of China’s policy of opening up its economy, people had
begun large-scale exploitation of the forest resources. Due to the high commercial value of Nan
trees and camphor trees, they were the first to be felled, almost to the point
of extinction. Because the need was
so great, it came to the point where no sooner was a tree was spotted, then it
would be cut down. In less than 10
years, denuded stone mountains were all that remained.
在上世紀末及本世紀初，中國歷經三次罕見的水患，所造成的生命財產損失，幾乎抵消了一成的國民生產總值。主要原因便是失去了森林的固水能力，因為每一棵十年以上的大樹，約能保持一立方公尺的水分及○˙四立方公尺的土方。失去森林的保護便造成大量的水土流失，造成河道淤塞。山地的樹木無法成長，而平地的積水則難以消退。更糟糕的是，地下水層下降，導致大氣層蒸發不均，氣候失調，全球農產大減。
At
the end of last century and the beginning of this century, on 3 occasions China
experienced floods of a magnitude rarely seen. The loss of life and property almost wiped
out 10% of the GNP. The main reason
was the forest’s diminished capacity to hold water. Every tree 10 years old and up can
retain 1 cubic meter of water and 0.4 cubic meters of earth. The disappearance of forest protection
caused large-scale loss of water and soil.
As a result the riverbed became silted up. Trees in the mountains could no longer
grow, making it difficult for floodwaters on flat land to recede. What was worse, the level of underground
water was reduced and this resulted in unbalanced atmospheric evaporation. The weather became undependable and world
agricultural production dropped dramatically.
中國政府痛定思痛，喊出「科技興國」的口號，尤其重視生物科技，便把雲南的文山區設為發展生物技術的重點區域。
The
Chinese government took this painful experience to heart and began loudly shout
out the slogan, “National Prosperity Through Technology”. They placed a special emphasis on
biotechnology so the Wenshan region in Yunnan was established as a vital region for the development of this science.
生命只是「能量的連續變化」現象，在不同的環境中，有不同的發展狀況。生命一旦形成了，要在變化中維持生存，便需有穩定的生態環境。以地球而言，生命因地熱作用而產生，及後因日照的恆定性，生命便以光能為變化的依據。一直要到高級生物－－人類出現後，才開始追求效率。
Life is merely a phenomenon of “sequential
energy change”. In different
environments, different developments will occur. Once life is formed, in order to sustain
itself throughout change, a stable ecosystem is required. On Earth, life is created by the effect
of geothermal heat. Coupled with
the stability of sunshine after it is born, life, therefore, uses light energy
as the basis for subsequent transformations. It is not until the most advanced life
form – Man - emerged, that the quest for efficiency began.
追求效率的過程也有三段曲，最初只是鞏固生存的條件；其次是建立物質基礎；最後是利用既有物質，進入智慧之林。
The
quest for efficiency can be divided into a three separate sections. The first one is to secure the
conditions for survival. Next is
the establishment of a material foundation, and ultimately the use of existing
materials to
enter the forest of wisdom.
地球生命發生於海洋，那裡有濃度極高的原始有機物質，如甲烷、氨氣、二氧化碳、二氧化氮等。這些都是水溶性的有機物質，藉著水的液態特性，再加上因溫度變化而引起的洋流，使得各種物質得以充分混合，加大了接觸的機率。
Life
on Earth began in the ocean. Primal
organic substances with an extremely high density of concentration are found
there. For example, there are
methane, ammonia, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide, all of which are
water-soluble organic substances.
Taking advantage of the liquidizing characteristic of water, together
with the currents caused by temperature change, causes maximum intermingling of
the various substances, thereby increasing the chance of contact.
海洋深處本有不斷宣洩的活火山，因為高溫的催化，化學作用快速且強烈。於是氨基酸出現了，接著由氨基酸所合成的蛋白質分子也產生了。這種分子有一種特性，其結構式非常靈活，極易與其他物質化合分解，而且能結合成長大而複雜的分子。
In
the depths of the ocean, active volcanoes are continually erupting. With these high temperatures serving as
catalyst, chemical reactions are swift and strong. This led to the emergence of amino
acids. Subsequently, protein
molecules were produced from combinations of these aminos acids. This class of molecule has a unique
characteristic. The structure is highly
flexible, allowing it to easily combine or resolve with other substances, making
possible the formation of large and complex molecules.
由於蛋白質不斷結合分解的變化，各式各樣的排列組合都產生了。其中只有穩定的、能與環境共存的保留下來，形成了生命。所謂的生命，其實只是一種連續變化的能量作用，由一層有選擇性的物質，將內、外依需求而隔絕。生命指的就是「內在」的連續變化，實際上，「內在」與「外在」是無法截然劃分的。
Because
of changes wrought by the ceaseless uniting and sundering of protein, every
conceivable type of arrangement is produced. Among these only the kind that is stable
and can co-exist with its environment is able to remain and develop into a life
form. This so-called life is actually
the result of sequential energy transformation. A layer of selective substance seals off
the interior, or exterior, according to its needs. Life refers to “internal” sequential
changes. In reality, it’s
impossible to make a clear
distinction between “interior” and “exterior”.
有了生命以後，最初也曾製造出大量的「廢物」氧氣，它是一種活性極強的元素，由於對早期的生命體不利，便被排除到水面。經過數億年的作用，地球表面便生成了以氧氣為主的大氣層。基於能量持續變化的本質，生命體在氧化後，逐漸習慣且承襲了活性強的快速變化。於是氧氣成為地球上不可或缺的動力，又因日光的能量效率更高，遂有了好光喜氧的生物產生。
Once
life had emerged, initially a large quantity of “disposable” oxygen, a highly
active element, was also produced.
Because it is harmful to life forms in their early stage, it was dispersed
onto the surface of water. Over a
period of hundreds of million years, an atmosphere based primarily on oxygen
emerged on the Earth’s surface.
Because of its essential character, that energy continued to change. After life forms are oxidized, they
gradually become accustomed to, and take on, these highly active, rapid
changes. In this manner, oxygen became
an indispensable diving force on Earth.
What’s more, thanks to solar energy, efficiency is improved. Life forms favoring oxygen and light
therefore came into existence.
以太陽能維生的生命體，只要有空氣、水與某些礦物質就能不斷地繁衍下去。由於日光不需要尋找，這類生命體只要固定在一有利的位置即可，故稱「植物」。植物蘊藏的能量不高，當單位能量的累積超過植物的極限時，維持其生存的能量就必須增加，而太陽能是固定不變的（嚴格說是逐漸地減少）。因此這種生命體必須以運動的方式趨近其他有能量累積的生物，以作為己身能量的補充。此種生命體因能運動，故稱動物。
The
life forms that are sustained by the Sun can continue to multiply as long as
there is air, water, and certain minerals.
Because sunlight doesn’t need to be sought for, this type of life form can
be sustained by remaining at a fixed location that is favorable to them. Hence the term “plants”. The energy stored in plants is not
high. When unit energy is accumulated
and exceeds the limit of a plant, energy must be increased to sustain the plant,
but solar energy is fixed (strictly speaking, it reduces gradually). Therefore, this kind of life form must,
by means of movement, draw closer to other living forms possessing accumulated
energy, as a means of supplementing their own. Because these kinds of life forms can
move, they are called “dong wu” (animal, Note 1).
動物因為運動及獵食的需要，漸漸發展出偵測環境的感官，以及掌控運動的肢體。在長時期的演進過程中，運動範圍大、獵食數量多者，其生存的機率較高。於是生命體的體積越來越大，機構也越來越複雜。
Because
of the need to move and hunt, animals gradually developed sense organs for
assessing the environment and limbs for the control of movement. During the long period of evolution, the
highest rate of survival was found among those whose wider range of mobility
enabled them to kill a larger number of prey. Therefore, the size of mobile life forms
became increasingly large as the organisms became increasingly complex.
在這個過程中，個體的成長是以群體所能容許的條件為極限。當一個體之成長接近其極限時，生命體就必須分裂。這一來，生命的存在得到了保障，個體則有了生與死。以此類推，任何連續變化的能量體，都具有相同的特性。不僅是個體，群體亦然，也不止是具體的物種，抽象的機構亦如此。
During
this process, individual growth is limited by conditions allowed by the
group. As an organism approaches maximum
development, it must divide. In
this fashion, the continuation of life is guaranteed, but the individual
entities, though they have life, must eventually perish. From this it follows that any energy
body subject to sequential modification possesses similar characteristics. This is true not only of individuals,
but for groups as well. Nor is this
restricted only to physically tangible species. It applies to abstract constructs as
well.
因此，在地球上、在宇宙中，成長的極限截然不同。地球的環境平衡力量使得恐龍絕跡了，哺乳類才應運而生。此類動物有較長的教育學習期，因而能累積、應用經驗。到了人類，更因經驗的記錄，進而將生命的意義延伸到以時間為主軸的子孫後裔。
Therefore,
the full extent of growth on Earth and in the universe is totally
different. An environmental
imbalance on Earth brought about the extinction of the dinosaur and gave rise
to the emergence of mammalia. This
kind of animal has a longer learning period, enabling it to accumulate
practical experience. In the case
of Man, it was the recording of practical experience that enabled him to take
the meaning of life a step further, and, over the passage of time, extend it to
generations to come.
能量有高低，利益有大小，存續有遠近。人站在一己的立場，目標為生命的永恒，隨時隨地選擇最佳的結果，就是「判斷」。有正確判斷能力者，即具智慧。缺乏智慧者，不論做人處事，安家謀國，必然無遠慮而有近憂。
Energy
can be either strong or weak, profit can be either large or small, and
existence can be either long or brief.
Viewed from a personal standpoint, the goal of Man is immortality. The result of making the best choice at
any time and any place is “judgement”.
The person capable of making correct judgments is a person of
wisdom. Any person lacking in
wisdom, be it in dealings with others or the handling of everyday affairs, providing
for his family, or planning for his country, for certain will lack foresight find
himself beset with anxieties.
能量小，利害小，利害小，其影響僅及眼前。能量大，利害大，千秋萬世都將受到株連。所以老子在《道德經》第六十章說：
When energy is insignificant, the consequences
of its action are small. When the consequences
of an act are small, they affect only the present. In the case of a powerful energy, the
consequences of an act are profound.
They will affect thousands of generations to come. Therefore, in Chapter 60 of the Dao De Jing, Lao Zi
states:
「治大國若烹小鮮。
「以道蒞天下，其鬼不神；
「非其鬼不神，其神不傷人；
「非其神不傷人，聖人亦不傷人。
「夫兩不相傷，故德交歸焉。」
“Ruling a large kingdom is indeed like
cooking small fish.
When Dao is used to rule all that is under heaven, demonic
spirits have no chance to display their powers.
Not only will
demonic spirits not display their powers, neither will the good spirits hurt the
people.
Not only will the good spirits not hurt the people, the Sage
himself will not harm people.
When demonic spirits, good spirits, and the Sage don’t harm people,
The people will
lead a peaceful life and all will practice virtue.
有人批評老子過於消極，而人類在二十世紀奮袂而起，積極以赴。中國是最後投入這個洪流的國家，結果是積極太過，在短短的三十年中，經歷了西方三百年的毀滅過程。王之淳與陶朱公身歷其害，談到痛心處，不禁淚下霑襟。
Some people criticize Lao Zi for being too pessimistic. But in the 20th century Mankind
called for reform and concentrated their energies in this direction. China was the last country to commit
itself to this trend. As a result,
they carried it too far. Within the
short time of 30 years, they underwent a devastating experience that had taken
the West 300 years to accomplish.
Wang Zhichun and Mr. Tao Zhu had personally experienced
this suffering. To speak of this painful
experience, was enough to bring tears to their eyes.
陶朱公在地上抓了一把泥土，說：「就算你們不懂農事，總看得出這些土和沙漠中的沙石沒有什麼分別吧！這一帶本來是一片綠蔭蔽天的森林，現在變成了光禿禿的沙堆。老實說，我反對推翻電腦政府，要再回到過去人類當家作主的時代，我真不知道人要怎麼活下去！」
Mr. Tao Zhu took a handful of earth
and said, “Even if you’re not familiar with farming, you can at least see
there’s no difference between this earth and desert sand! This area used to be a forest so dense that
it blocked the sunlight. Now it has
become a barren sand heap. To tell
the truth, I’m against deposing the computer government. But if we return to the time when Man
was in charge, I really don’t see how people can survive!”
「哈哈！好精采的讜論！」
“Ha, ha! Brilliant talk!”
眾人朝發聲處一看，不遠處有一道光幢，裡面站著高高矮矮五六個身著白袍、頭裹白巾的中東人士。除了周博士外，只有文祥見過大法王，他不動聲色，靜觀其變。
All
of them looked in the direction where these words had come from. Not far away, there was a pillar of light. Inside the pillar stood 5 or 6 people,
some tall some short, their heads wrapped in white turbans and wearing white
robes in the manner of people from the Middle East. Other than Dr. Zhou, Wen Xiang was the only other person who had met the First
Lord. He made no sound or gesture,
and waited quietly to see how things would turn out.
周博士對大法王說：「阿米！你看，我帶了幾位客人來。」
Dr. Zhou said to the First Lord, “A-mi! Look. I’ve brought you some guests.”
「瓊英！」大法王神色嚴峻：「我看得出來，妳一定是報仇不成！」
“Qiongying!” The
First Lord’s expression was stern, “I can see your revenge isn’t working out!”
周博士笑道：「很難說，要看報仇兩個字的定義！」
Dr. Zhou laughed and said, “Hard
to say. It depends on how you
define the word ‘revenge’.”
「那我不管！你為什麼把姓文的也帶來了？」
“That’s of no
importance to me! Why did you bring
this fellow, Wen, along too?”
周博士詫道：「哪個姓文的？難道又觸犯了你什麼忌諱？」
Dr.
Zhou said with surprise, “Who’s Wen?
Do you mean to say I’ve violated one of your taboos again?”
「哼！我有什麼忌諱？」大法王並不清楚文祥與他被囚禁在金星有關，卻知道這小子頗有來頭，便對文祥說：「姓文的，不要以為人多我法王就怕了。」
“Huh! I have no taboos.” The First Lord didn’t know that Wen Xiang had something to do with his been imprisoned on
Venus, but he did know that this fellow was well-connected. So he said to Wen Xiang,
“Wen, don’t think that I, the Lord, am afraid of you just because you have more
people with you.”
文祥安祥地說：「法王久違了。」
Wen Xiang said serenely, “Long time no see, Lord.”
大法王恨恨地說：「少來這一套！誰知道上次是不是你陷害我的？」
His voice full of hatred, the First
Lord said, “Knock it off! For all I
know it was you that set me up last time.”
文祥問：「陷害你什麼？」
Wen Xiang
asked, “Set you up for what?”
丟臉的事怎能在眾多陌生人面前啟口？大法王裝作沒聽到，對周博士說：「為什麼不給我介紹一下？」他指指王之淳說：「王博士，我們才是久仰了，我真不知道你少了哪一根筋？像瓊英這樣的尤物，能行雲佈雨，你也不知惜香憐玉！」
How could he talk about his
humiliation before so many strangers?
The First Lord pretended he hadn’t heard him and said to Dr. Zhou, “Why
don’t you introduce us?” He pointed
at Wang Zhichun and said, “Dr. Wang, I’ve been
looking forward to meeting you. I
don’t know what’s wrong with you. A
woman as bewitching as Qiongying, who is so
accomplished at making love, and you don’t know how to treat her with
tenderness!”
王之淳差點氣昏：「你說什麼？」
Wang Zhichun
was so angry he almost fainted. “What did you say?”
大法王說：「女人也是人，也要發洩，更需要關懷與溫柔。你們這些大男人，當精囊發脹了，就恨不得馬上丟光！真是一點都不負責任！」
The
First Lord said, “Women are human, too.
They need to give vent to their passion, but they need care and
gentleness even more. When your
testicles are swollen you Chauvinists can’t wait to empty them! Truly you have no sense of duty!”
王之淳臉紅過耳：「我們的責任是工作！」
Wang Zhichun
blushed all the way to his ears. “Our
duty is work!”
大法王搖頭說：「可憐！大博士呀！工作是工作，娛樂是娛樂呀！怎能在娛樂時想工作呢？在那個關頭，打個岔就變成棉花球！不掃興嗎？」
The
First Lord shook his head, “What a pity! Oh, Mighty Doctor! Work is work and pleasure is pleasure! How can you think about work when you’re
in the midst of pleasure? At that
critical moment, any interruption would render you as soft as cotton! Wouldn’t that spoil your fun?”
周博士大怒：「阿米！你說什麼？原來你是在『娛樂』？」
Dr. Zhou flared, “A-mi! What are you saying? So you’re being ‘pleasured’?”
大法王笑道：「娛樂有什麼不對？不懂娛樂才是罪過！」
The First Lord laughed and said,
“What’s wrong with that? The sin
lies in not knowing how to enjoy pleasure!”
周博士怒氣未消：「我記得你是『愛』我的！」
Dr. Zhou was still
angry. “I remember that you ‘love’
me!”
大法王道：「愛與娛樂有什麼矛盾呢？算了吧！我們上床再讓妳娛樂娛樂！」
The First Lord said, “What’s the
difference between love and pleasure?
Forget it! Let’s go to bed
and I’ll pleasure you again!”
這下輪到王之淳發怒了：「什麼？你們上過床了？」
It was Wang Zhichun’s turn to get angry, “What? You’ve slept together?”
大法王說：「奇怪？你是現在才知道，還是現在才想起來？我們同居好久了！」
The
First Lord said, “That’s strange.
Did you discover it just now or did you just remember? We’ve been living together for a long
time.”
周博士大喝：「胡說！」
Dr. Zhou barked, “Nonsense!”
大法王說：「胡說？我設立這個基地已經幾年了！如果不是為了妳，我才不會留在這個鳥不生蛋的地方！」
The
First Lord said, “Nonsense? It’s
already been several years since I set up this base! If it wasn’t for you, I would never have
stayed in this God-forsaken place!”
周博士楞了一楞，這才發覺大法王用情深厚，不禁芳心一軟：「真的？可是你老說是為了要推翻電腦當局，要發揚生化事業，要監視那個老和尚才來這裡的！」
Dr.
Zhou was startled. She hadn’t
discovered the First Lord’s zealous affection until now. Her heart couldn’t help but soften,
“Really? But you’ve always said you
came here because you wanted to overturn the Computer Authority Bureau, develop
a biochemical industry, and spy on that old monk!”
大法王說：「本來是那樣，後來見到妳，一切就改變了。」
The First Lord said, “That
was my original intention. But after
I met you, everything changed.”
周博士說：「不要說瞎話，你還不是看在我父親的面子上！」
Dr. Zhou said, “Don’t talk
rubbish. You’re simply doing this out
of the respect for my father, that’s all!”
大法王說：「妳是真不懂，還是裝糊塗？妳父親？那不過是領妳的情！你難道不知道我的資產有多少？整個文山基地，連零頭都算不上！」
The
First Lord said, “You mean you really don’t understand or are you just playing
dumb? Your father? That was for your sake! Don’t you know how much wealth I have? The value of the entire Wenshan base is
just small change in my eyes!”
周博士微笑道：「可是我又不是國色天香，怎麼可能這樣邀天之幸？」
Dr. Zhou smiled and said,
“But I’m not a celestial beauty. What
have I done to deserve this great honor?”
大法王說：「是不是國色天香，要看有沒有識貨的。年輕美貌算什麼？三分鐘就做到了！可貴的只有那顆心，為了妳的心，我才留在這裡。」
The
First Lord said, “Whether a woman is a celestial beauty or not, depends on eye
of the expert. What’s the good of being
young and beautiful? You can be
like that in 3 minutes! What’s
important is the heart. I’ve stayed
on here because of your heart.”
周博士聽得全身酥軟，說：「我的心真有那麼大的吸引力嗎？」
Dr.
Zhou’s entire body went weak when she heard these words. She said, “Is my heart really so
appealing?”
大法王嘴一撇，說：「妳別裝出一副無辜的樣子了，等到躺下來，閉上眼睛，那就完全不一樣了。」
The First Lord sneered and he said,
“Don’t pretend to be so innocent. Wait
until you lie down and close your eyes, then it’ll be a completely different
story.”
周博士幽幽地說：「可是我這顆心還有一半沒收回來。」
Dr.
Zhou faintly said, “But half of my heart belongs to someone else.”
大法王笑道：「那有什麼關係，生命是無限的，只要有價值，我能等。」
The
First Lord laughed and said, “It doesn’t matter. Life is eternal. As long as something is of value, I can
wait.”
王之淳本來就一肚子氣，聽法王與周博士一唱一和，心中怒濤洶湧，當下破口大罵：「兩個不知羞恥的狗男女！通通給我住口！」
Wang
Zhichun was furious from the beginning. When he heard the words that passed
between the Lord and Dr. Zhou, a wave of anger swept over him and he cursed
them saying, “Two shameless sons of bitches! Shut up, both of you!”
大法王說：「姓王的，吃什麼乾醋呢？你有本事，就拿回去！」
The First Lord said, “You,
Wang. What are you jealous
about? If you think you can do it,
then take her back!”
周博士由雲端一下子跌落泥地：「什麼！拿回去？你把我當做什麼了？」
In
an instant Dr. Zhou tumbled from cloud nine back to earth. “What! Take me back? What do you think I am?”
大法王笑笑說：「瓊瓊！何必呢？妳快活，我快活，為什麼不讓王博士也快活一下？再說，我從來沒有吃妳的醋呀！這下王博士吃醋了，妳應該高興才是！」
The
First Lord laughed and said, “Qiongqiong! Why are you doing this? You’re happy, I’m happy, why not make
Dr. Wang happy as well? Besides,
I’ve never been jealous of you! Now
that Dr. Wang is jealous, you should be happy!”
衣紅看他們這樣鬧下去，實在不成體統，她俠義心腸又動了，便站了出來，說：「大法王先生！你是大人物，說話應該符合身份才是！」
Perceiving
the outrageous way they were carrying on, Yi Hong’s sense of honor and
gallantry once again emerged. Standing
up she said, “Mr. First Lord!
You’re a person of importance.
You should say things in keeping with your status!”
大法王定睛一看，是個十來歲的小姑娘，不由大奇，問道：「妳是誰？怎麼還在外邊遊蕩，趕快回家去！」
The
First Lord looked closely at her.
It was a teenage girl. Surprised,
he asked, “And who are you? Why are
you doing wandering around out here?
Go on home!”
衣紅說：「本姑娘叫衣紅，見不得污穢的事，不能不出面過問！」
Yi
Hong said, “I’m Yi Hong. I can’t abide
lewdness, so I have to put in my 2 cents worth!”
大法王說：「大人的事小孩子不要管，男女做愛不是什麼污穢的事。再不然妳有興趣，法王我可以義務給妳指點指點。」
The
First Lord said, “Children should stay out of adult affairs. There’s nothing lewd about a man and a
woman making love. Or, should you
be interested, I, the Lord, can give you a few pointers, free of charge.”
衣紅臉一紅，說：「可是法王你說的那一套不是愛，如果說是性交，姑娘我見多了。只要是禽獸，隨時隨地都在做，是人就不能隨便說、隨便做。」
Yi
Hong blushed and said, “But what you’re saying is not love. If you’re talking about sexual
intercourse, I’ve seen a lot of that. If it’s an animal, they can do it any
time and any place. But if it’s
human, one doesn’t discuss it so lightly or do it so casually.”
大法王問道：「妳多大年齡了？我怎麼看不出來？」
The First Lord asked, “How
old are you? Why can’t I tell?”
衣紅說：「那是你學藝不精，我今年十七歲！」
Yi Hong said, “That’s
because you’re not well-educated.
I’m 17.”
大法王一想，才十七歲，應該不難對付：「妳是外太空來的？是吧？」
